Surf City 5k Race

My first 5k race in California, good vibes only and running with friends.

Last November, a sudden deluge of apocalyptic rain denied us the Malibu Sun Run 5K. I was still able to run the half marathon the next day. The organizers allowed us to enroll for the 5K in Surf City and so we did.

I have been running on and off, not even every week lately, giving my corpse and soul to the swimming gods. Funny enough, I went to trail running this week for the first time ever with a good pal (a 4.30min/km beast).

And as I am very organized, I had completely forgotten that I had this 5K race coming up on Sunday, same week. Surf City 5K is on Huntington Beach, CA. It looks like Venice Beach but in Orange County.

Long story short, I had an amazing race. Excellent combo of spending the day with friends and doing an activity you can feel proud of, in the outside world.

For people like me, it is a race at sub 5min per kilometre. It is very good for my condition. In fact I do not think I ever ran so fast during training.

I went very high on the cardio side, clocking up to 191 bpm. After falling a bit asleep in the middle of the race, seeing the finish line made me push very hard in the last kilometre.
